Best hot yoga in Auckland 2026: 5 studios that turn up the heat

The best hot yoga in Auckland is Eastwest Yoga on Ponsonby Road for the classic Bikram 26+2 sequence. For the best-value hot yoga, HIYOGA on Queen Street with a $30 for 30 days unlimited intro. For hot HIIT pilates in a heated room, Sweat Yoga in Newmarket is the city’s standard-setter. For infrared-heated pilates and HIIT with red-light therapy recovery (and one Yin yoga class on the schedule), Redroom at City Works Depot and Takapuna. For East Auckland, Achel Hot Yoga at Botany Town Centre.

Hot yoga in Auckland comes in three main flavours: classic Bikram (38 to 40 degrees with 40 to 60 percent humidity, the 26+2 sequence), Hot Hatha and Hot Vinyasa (similar heat, free-form sequencing), and infrared-heated (a newer model using infrared panels rather than forced air). Each has a different feel, and the right one depends on what you actually want from the heat.

What hot yoga is for

The case for heat is well-known and slightly oversold. The heat raises your heart rate, softens the connective tissue, and produces the cardiovascular response of a moderate workout. It does not, despite what the marketing sometimes implies, detoxify your liver or burn 1000 calories. What it does is challenge your relationship to discomfort, which is a real benefit if your nervous system needs that particular kind of stretching.

People with cardiovascular conditions, pregnancy or sensitivity to heat should consult their doctor first. Hydration is non-negotiable. Most teachers will tell you to drink 600 ml before, sip during, and drink 600 ml of electrolyte water after.

The hot studio field

Eastwest Yoga, Ponsonby and Newmarket

The classic Bikram 26+2 done properly. Ninety minutes, 38 to 40 degrees, the same sequence every time. Owned by Sheryn and Amelia, who have run the Ponsonby studio for nearly two decades. The Newmarket outpost at 489 Khyber Pass opened in May 2022. The vibe is unpretentious to the point of being a value in itself. Not on ClassPass.

HIYOGA, CBD and Henderson

Purpose-built 40-degree studio with sophisticated heating and fresh-air circulation. Classes include 26+2 Hot Yoga, Hot HIIT Pilates, 45-minute Yoga Sweat, Yin, Vinyasa and Hatha. Founded by Yoga Alliance Master Yoga Teacher Rebeckh. The $30 for 30 days intro is the best value in town. On ClassPass.

Sweat Yoga, Newmarket

Bruce Simons’ studio. The cult class is Hot HIIT Pilates: high-intensity interval training using pilates principles, on a yoga mat in a heated room. Hot Yoga is the Bikram 26+2 in a Hatha format. Power Vinyasa runs at a more humane 32 degrees. Intro $40 for two weeks. On ClassPass.

Redroom Wellness, CBD and Takapuna

Worth knowing: Redroom is primarily an infrared pilates and HIIT studio, not a yoga studio. The room is heated by infrared panels and lit by red LED panels. Most of the timetable is Thermo Tone (heated strength), Thermo Sculpt (heated weighted pilates) and Thermo HIIT. The one yoga class is Thermo Yin. The post-class Red Light Therapy suites can be booked as add-ons. Five classes for $85 over two weeks for newcomers. Not for pregnant clients. On ClassPass.

Achel Hot Yoga and Pilates, Botany

East Auckland’s long-running hot yoga studio. Bikram in 60 and 90 minute formats, Inferno Hot Pilates, Vinyasa and Yin. Owner Ellen has run it for over a decade. On ClassPass.

What I would tell a friend

If you want to do the proper Bikram once and find out whether it is for you, Eastwest. If you want the cheapest way to find out, HIYOGA’s $30 month. If you want to be punished and you like a great soundtrack, Sweat Hot HIIT. If you want the chic infrared experience with a Red Light recovery suite, Redroom. If you live east, Achel.

FAQ

What is the best hot yoga studio in Auckland? Eastwest Yoga on Ponsonby Road for the classic Bikram 26+2 done at 38 to 40 degrees. HIYOGA on Queen Street for the best value at $30 for 30 days unlimited.

What is the difference between Bikram and Hot Yoga? Bikram is a specific sequence of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises, done in the same order every class, in a room heated to around 40 degrees. Hot Yoga is a broader term that includes Bikram but also free-form heated Hatha and Vinyasa.

Is hot yoga safe during pregnancy? No. Most studios do not allow heated classes during pregnancy. Redroom explicitly excludes pregnant clients from infrared classes and offers private PT instead. If you are pregnant, look at non-heated yoga at Golden Yogi, Kanuka, Auckland Yoga Academy or Kenkō.

How hot are Auckland hot yoga studios? Most run between 38 and 40 degrees. Infrared studios like Redroom feel cooler at the same temperature because the heat is more direct.
